Pressed Piles

Pressed piles are used to reinforce the foundations of existing structures. Remedial action may be necessary for a variety of reasons including weak foundations in original constructions, damage caused by subsidence or risk of failure when outside factors cause the foundations to no longer have sufficient bearing capacity.

A geotechnical investigation is normally undertaken before pressed piles can be installed. The geotechnical report will provide an indication of the soil properties and provide information on the length of the piles needed to transfer the load from the structure to hard strata or soil with high bearing capacity. Pressed piles consisting of tubular sections of steel or concrete are pressed into place beneath the foundations using a hydraulic jack. Excavations can be carried out within or outside of the property to minimize disruption.
